Boys Track: Hubs bring home Interstate 8 All-Conference honors

Varsity team finishes sixth in conference meet at Sycamore

SYCAMORE — The Rochelle Hub varsity track and field team finished sixth out of eight teams with 23.66 points in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship meet at Sycamore High School on Friday. The Hubs will host the IHSA 2A Rochelle Sectional on Wednesday, May 18.

Three Rochelle athletes took home All-Conference honors in the individual events. Senior Zach Sanford earned All-Conference honors in the shot put, taking second with a personal-record heave of 15.47 meters. Senior Ryan Simmons brought home All-Conference honors in the high jump, finishing in a tie for third with a clearance of 1.73 meters. Junior Griffin Ohlinger finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82 seconds to earn All-Conference honors.

Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team (Ethan Wells, Michael Ramsey, Luke Orlikowski and Ohlinger) brought home All-Conference honors, finishing fourth with a time of 1:35.87. Ohlinger earned an Honorable Mention in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 23.92 seconds, while Sanford received an Honorable Mention in the discus, taking fifth with a mark of 40.14 meters.

Fresh-Soph

The Rochelle Hub fresh-soph track and field team took fourth with 59.5 points in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship meet on Friday. Sophomore Irving Escalante finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.38 seconds and second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.46 seconds. Freshman Chris Hickey took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.34.

Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team (Jackson Smith, Jack Tilton, Anlun Meyers and Nathan Sergeant) placed fourth in 1:45.90 and Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Escalante, Smith, Sergeant and Caleb Wyssbrod) took second in 3:50.78. Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Abel Huerta, Hickey, Luis Hernandez and Alex Burke) finished third with a time of 9:58.91.

Sophomore Carlos Tomas placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.95 meters. Sophomore Eli Luxton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.68 meters while Sergeant took third with a clearance of 1.63 meters. Freshman Kenny Overton took fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.45 meters.
