Boys Track: Hubs head to Beloit for Northern Illinois Invitational

Varsity team takes 10th, fresh-soph team places seventh

BELOIT, Wis. — The Rochelle Hub track and field team battled at the Northern Illinois Invitational on Friday evening. The varsity team finished 10th out of 11 schools with eight points and the fresh-soph team took seventh out of 10 schools with 23 points in the competition. Rochelle will compete in the Interstate 8 Conference Championships on Thursday.

Varsity

Junior Luis Hernandez finished fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:16.75 and 15th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:58.71. Junior Landon Mickley took third in the shot put with a heave of 13.95 meters and 12th in the discus throw with a mark of 34.21 meters. Senior Ethan Bergeson placed seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.25 meters, 11th in the 110-meter hurdles (18.56 seconds) and 17th in the 300-meter hurdles (47.62 seconds).

Junior Nathan Sergeant finished 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.06 meters and 14th in the long jump with a distance of 5.15 meters. Junior Bruno Fernandez took 17th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.18 seconds and sophomore Jackson Smith placed 15th with a time of 12.29 seconds. Junior Irving Escalante finished 17th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.75 seconds and junior Abel Huerta took 19th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.82. Freshman Jorge Martinez placed 13th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.49 meters.

Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team (Reece Harris, Caden Goodwin, Nathan Sergeant and Jackson Smith) took eighth with a time of 1:40.97. Rochelle’s 400-meter relay team (Reece Harris, Landon DeLille, Caden Goodwin and Jackson Smith) and 1600-meter relay team (Caden Goodwin, Nathan Sergeant, Jackson Smith and Wyatt Worthington) each placed 10th with respective times of 47.04 seconds and 3:55.38.

Fresh/Soph

Sophomore Jack Tilton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.80 meters and sophomore Colton Czekala took third in the shot put with a heave of 11.69 meters. Sophomore Kenny Overton placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.79 meters and freshman Caden Goodwin finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.33 meters. Freshman Wyatt Worthington took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.79 seconds.

Freshman Elijah Mayen finished ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.24 and ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.52. Freshman Reece Harris placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.32 seconds and freshman Declan McGee took seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:05.44. Sophomore Jack Tarvestad finished eighth in the discus throw with a heave of 26.38 meters and freshman Andrew Nuyen took ninth in the long jump at 4.43 meters.
