Quinonez reaches state-qualifying standard in 800-meter run

MAPLE PARK — The Rochelle varsity boys track and field team took 12th out of 14 schools in the Peterson Prep Invitational at Kaneland High School on Saturday. The Hubs totaled 22 points in the meet.

Junior Gyvanziel Quinonez finished third in the 800-meter run, clocking in less than one second under the state-qualifying standard with a time of 2:00.01. Junior Santi Cordoba went under five minutes in the 1600-meter run, placing 21st with a time of 4:58.95. Cordoba placed 21st in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:17.84.

Senior Ryan Friestad hit a personal record in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 11th with a time of 16.83 seconds. Senior Dylan Finkboner also notched a personal record, timing in at 45.92 in the 300-meter hurdles to place 16th. Senior Connor Lenkaitis placed 13th in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 53.66.

Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Lenkaitis, Ben Hickey, Greg Ricketts and Quinonez) took third with a time of 3:36.14. Senior Mason DeLille finished sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-9 while taking fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 41-5 ¾. Sophomore Trevor Goodwin placed seventh in the triple jump at 39-9 and junior Aaron Vondergathen took 11th in the pole vault at 9-2.
