ROCHELLE — Anthony Chavez and Mark Pearson made chocolate Braille Bars again last spring to raise awareness and money for visually impaired students.
Last week, Rochelle Lions Club President Kevin Zilm met the guys and was presented a check in the amount of $600 which he said will provide help for four of the many people who appeal to the Lions Club for assistance with glasses and vision-related expenses.
Although Chavez is now a freshman at Kishwaukee College, it is likely the annual Braille Bar sales will continue Spring 2018, Pearson’s last year at Rochelle Township High School.
“I’m going to Kish for my general ed classes, too,” Pearson said. “Maybe Anthony and I will continue Braille Bar sales over there or maybe we’ll will the candy bar molds to the next visually impaired students here.”
They estimate more than 1,500 candy bars have been sold.
