Bratko, Cook step up for Hubs in loss at Yorkville

YORKVILLE — With the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet on the horizon, the Hubs bowling team reacquainted itself with a familiar foe on Tuesday, traveling to Yorkville for a conference match against the Foxes.
Rochelle conceded all 10 points to Yorkville, falling by a series score of 3,525-3,028. Sophomore Brady Shank rolled his third consecutive 600 series, shooting a team-high 267 in his first game before cooling off with a 200 and a 171 in his second and third games to finish with a 638.
Sophomore Tyler Johnson bowled a 507 series and a high game of 181, and the Hubs received a big boost from junior Mark Bratko and senior Austin Cook. Bratko totaled a 180 and a 181 over his first two games en route to a 519 series, while Cook shot a 202 in his final game to finish with a 501 series in the match.

The Hubs easily surpassed 1,000 pins in the first game, but the Foxes proved to be too tough on their home lanes, as Yorkville went on to win the first game by a score of 1,122-1,072. Shank’s monster game carried Rochelle, while a 222 from Matt Lewan and a 201 from Zackary Bianch were the high games for the Foxes.
Three Yorkville bowlers topped 200 in the second round of games, with Evan Jards shooting a team-high 246 and Kyle Krumme adding a 221. Dante Gashi chipped in a 203 for the Foxes, who defeated Rochelle in the second game 1,229-936. Yorkville continued to roll in the third and final series of games, with the Foxes winning 1,174-1,020 to clinch the series victory.
The Hubs will now prepare to bowl in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet in DeKalb on Thursday.

The junior varsity team lost by a score of 2,827-2,063, with junior Tyler Nalley leading Rochelle with a 388 series and a high game of 170. Senior Justin Sandoval added a 372 series, while junior Osvaldo Fulgencio and senior Dylan Papke combined for 700 pins in the match.
