ROCHELLE – Alex Edwards and his wife, Paityn, have always taken their kids to Cooper Park in Rochelle. 

When they were looking for another location to bring Candy Cloud Company to, the park was on a short list. 

“We love it so much,” Alex said. “The kids can play and have a treat. It’s a good family night out.”

Candy Cloud Company will be at Cooper Park every Tuesday from 3:30-7:30 p.m. through October. The business sells cotton candy, shave ice and drinks including cold coffee, horchata and lemonade. 

Edwards is from Byron and does events all over Ogle County. Candy Cloud has been in business for two years. Last week was its first in Rochelle. 

“We’ve been pretty busy,” Alex said. “We sold out of a lot of stuff tonight by 6 p.m. People are ordering a lot of the lemonade. Everything is homemade. That’s why people love it so much.”

Steve and Jamie Gadson of Hillcrest brought their daughters, Olivia and Alleigha, to the park Tuesday for a treat. The pair snacked on cotton candy while their parents drank lemonade and commented on Candy Cloud’s convenience. 

“It’s pretty amazing,” Steve said. “It’s practical. A reason to get out. With COVID-19 going on you can’t do a whole lot. Every Tuesday we’re going to and let our kids play while we enjoy our beverage. The environment is cool.”

The Candy Cloud shop is housed in a trailer. It’s also been used in the past for Paityn’s flower business. The look of it is retro and matches the business’s branding. 

The Edwards, who are full-time entrepreneurs, hope to have a brick and mortar location for Candy Cloud one day. 

“We haven’t decided on a spot,” Alex said. “We’re scouting areas and Rochelle is high on that list. Right now, we’re trying to make a plan.”
