ROCHELLE — Carolyn “Janie” Harris, 79, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at the Rochelle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Rochelle, the daughter of Ernest and Iva (Shook) Leathers.
She was united in marriage to James D. Harris on May 23, 1959 in Rochelle. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1991. She is also preceded in death by her parents.
Carolyn was born in Rochelle but raised on a farm south of Kings where she spent most of her childhood. She grew up in the Nazarene Church. Carolyn was a stay at home mom and beautician, having built a hair salon in her home. She was a long-time member of the Rochelle Moose and a 20 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #392. Carolyn was also a member of the Woodhaven Good Timers Club. She was an avid member of the Hub City Senior Center and was never one to miss morning bingo at the center.
She was a long-time member of the Rochelle T.O.P.S. Club. Carolyn was a strong, hard working woman who fought a long battle all the way through her recent illness.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted daughters, LaVon (Gary) Tallard of Rockford and Brenda (James D.) Wetzel of Rochelle; grandchildren, Tina (Justin) Franklin of Roscoe, Sandra Wetzel of Rochelle, Dusty Wetzel of Rochelle, Beth (Tom) Hanaman of New Auburn, Wis., Lori Morhardt of Rockford, Jill (Jeff) Zuvon of Janesville, Wis., Heather (Todd) Ryan of Rockford, and Holli Tallard of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Miles and Maddox Franklin of Roscoe, Abbi and Maeghan Hanaman of New Auburn, Wis., Spencer, Cameron, and Ethan Morhardt of Rockford, Kaitlyn, Julia and Ryan Zuvon of Janesville, Wis., and Garrett and Ashley Ryan of Rockford; and sisters, Mary (Eugene) Bunger and Phyllis (EA) Williams.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., in Rochelle. The Women of the Moose service will take place at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 at the funeral home with Pastor Mary Lou Eubanks officiating. Private interment will take place in Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle. A memorial has been established.
