ROCHELLE — There was plenty o’ green, good food and fun at the annual Lucky’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade and Irish Hooley last Saturday as the Rochelle community celebrated the Irish heritage in a big way.
The event also included entertainment and vendors.
Members of the James Hart family led the parade on Gertie, driven by Lieut. Jeremy Good of the Rochelle Fire Department.
“I’d like to thank everyone that came out and braved the weather,” said event organizer, Nancy Bingham. “It’s nice to see everyone as we walk down the streets in the parade.”
Little Miss Peanut and Miss Ogle County and her court made a special appearance along with Anna’s Pink Ambulance from Amboy Fire Department.
Bingham encourages everyone to attend, dress in green and join in the fun.
“It’s a day to have fun, no matter what your heritage or your age,” she added. “I need to give a special thanks for everyone that helped, especially my family that has put in many hours AND the set up crew. Without them, all the ‘extras’ wouldn’t be there.”
Bingham said she is looking forward to next year; plans are already underway.
“We are always looking for volunteers; it takes many hours and many hands to put on this event along with all the other events in the community,” she said. “I enjoy giving back to my community that I have lived in/around all my life, but still need the help to make it all happen.”
