OREGON – The Chana School is once again holding its fantastic rummage sale in the Coliseum on Friday, June 2, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Saturday, June 3, from 8 a.m.-noon.
Tables will be overflowing with clothing, kitchen items, books, toys, shoes, furniture and much more. Some early donations are a glass top table and 6 matching wicker chairs, beautiful Tom Heflin prints with expensive frames donated by a local bank, a complete brass bed set, lamps, antiques, vintage 1950s furniture and plants. Items from every room of the house and beyond will be for sale.
If you have any items you’d like to donate to the sale, drop-off day is Thursday, June 1 until 5 p.m. For help with getting large items to the Coliseum or if you have questions, call 815-732-6807 or 815-973-6711.
Usually the proceeds of the sale go to general expenditures and maintenance of the late 1800s school building, but this year the funds are even more important because the cedar shingles on the two roofs were supposed to last 25 years. They didn’t. So both rooms have to be re-shingled. And that’s not inexpensive, especially when trying to preserve the historic nature of the building. So you can see how important this sale is.
Eight school groups of students will each be benefiting from their day in the one-room school this spring. In the fall, different groups will participate, and almost every student leaves exhilarated by his or her glimpse into the past – made possible by your donations or purchases.
