Charles E. Coil, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16. He was one of 11 children born to Simon and Laura Mae (Ellis) Coil on April 12, 1939 in Cisne, Illinois.

ROCHELLE — Charles E. Coil, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16. He was one of 11 children born to Simon and Laura Mae (Ellis) Coil on April 12, 1939 in Cisne, Illinois.

Charles took Gwen Garland to be his wife on Oct. 18, 1958 in Oregon. They were married 63 years, the couple raised five children: Teresa Adams, Rick Coil both of Rochelle, Debra Leeann (Michael) Smith of Michigan, Tina (Tim) Ramsey of Chana and Greg Coil of Dixon. Charles and Gwen’s family grew to include 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.  Charles is also survived by his sibings: Helen Caylor of Florida, Phyllis Farmer of Georgia and Larcie Dunn of Illinois and sister-in-law, Joleen (John) King of Missouri.

In addition to his parents, Simon and Laura, he is preceded in death by seven siblings: James Coil, Leslie Coil, Kenny Coil, Mildred Blythe, Audrey Richardson, Alberta Abbott and Beaulah Scarbrough. He is also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Howard and Veda (Brown) Garland and special brother-in-law, Cecil Dunn.

Charles was a devoted family man and a second father to many of his nieces and nephews. He shared his love of fishing, boating, hunting, camping and enjoyed picnicking with his large extended family. He also loved cooking and had several signature dishes his family loved and enjoyed. Charles was a great man and loved by all who knew him.

Charles was an independent owner/operator truck driver. When Charles chose to stop driving independently, he finished his career with two local companies, Quest Excavating and PMB.
