ROCHELLE — Cedar Siding, Inc. is a wholesale distributor of factory finished siding and trim products headquartered in Rochelle and recently held its annual summer picnic and awards ceremony.
At the summer picnic, two employees were recognized for five years of service and one employee for 30 years of service. The ceremony was highlighted by the announcement of the winner of the 5th annual James T. Melvin Spirit Award.
James (Jim) Melvin was the plant manager of Cedar Siding, Inc. for more than 25 years before he passed away in April 2015. The owner and management team established the award as a way of honoring the longtime friend and co-worker; each year they wanted to recognize an employee who exhibited the finest character traits that Melvin was known for. The award is chosen based on someone who brought joy to his co-workers day in and day out and also to recognize that special individuals such as these are truly extraordinary in today’s business world.
Employees were able to nominate fellow employees for the award. The nominees were evaluated by a three judge panel based on the following criteria: work ethic, trustworthiness, dependability, sense of humor, accountability and leadership.
Twelve employees were honored by being nominated for this prestigious award, but only one was awarded.
This year’s winner was Peter Cole.
“I am honored to receive this award and want to thank everyone at Cedar Siding who nominated me. I am surprised to get this award seeing out in our gathering many people who deserve this more,” Cole said upon receiving the award. “Working for Cedar Siding is a joy because of all the great folks I get to work with. We have a lot of fun helping reside America and I’m proud to work with you all. I want to thank all of you and especially my beautiful wife. Thank you very much.”
