Colorful fundraiser set for September

Posted

ROCHELLE –– A rainbow of colors will be flying through the sky during the 2017 color run at Rochelle Middle School on Sept. 23.
The R.M.S. PTO is hosting the colorful 5K to raise money for the organization. In May 2016 the parent teacher organization held the first color run as a unique change of pace fundraiser.
“We try to encourage physical fitness and this is a healthy activity for the entire family,” explained Angie Seldal. “And all proceeds go back to the school. Prices are similar to other 5Ks and proceeds are kept here locally.”

Cost to participate is $20 for kids 14 and under and $30 for 15 and older. After Sept. 8 the registration fees increase by $5. Registration fee includes a single color packet, race bib and a color run t-shirt. To guarantee receiving the promotion items please sign up by Sept. 8. The first 100 participants to sign up will receive free sunglasses. Registration will be held the morning of the run, but shirts will not be guaranteed.

Participants can sign up online at runsignup.com or at the RMS office. Checks can be made payable to RMS P.T.O.
Seldal encourages families to participate in the race together and explained the PTO choose to host the run on Sept. 22 as all Rochelle Junior Tackle will be held that evening.
The run will start at RMS at 9 a.m. and end with a color party at the school. Throughout the 3.1-mile racecourse, participants will be doused with a rainbow or powder and liquid colors. The race has no time limit. Participants are encouraged to run, walk, or jog at their own pace.
As colorful participants crossed the finish line during the May race, Seldal received positive feedback.

“It was so much fun and well received, everyone who did it could not wait to do it again,” she stated.
Following the 5K RMS teacher, Mr. Deutsch will DJ a post-race party.
Local businesses helped sponsor the first event and students who signed up for the race were eligible to win small prizes. Seldal plans to giveaway prizes to RMS participants again this fall.
Anyone looking for additional information or to help with the race can contact Seldal at 815-766-0038.
