ROCHELLE — Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson formally designated the week of May 14 through May 20 as National Police Week in the City of Rochelle. The proclamation was made at the Rochelle City Council meeting Monday evening at City Hall.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of all fallen officers and their families. The calendar week of May 15 is National Police Week.
Businesses, government offices, and residences that display the national flag will be asked to lower the flag to half-staff from sunrise to sunset in remembrance of the over 19,000 law enforcement officers in the U.S. that have been killed in the line of duty.
Along with approving the election results held in Ogle County, the VFW Poppy Drive for May 27, and the Ale on Lincoln request for June 10, City Council approved a resolution establishing the minimum and maximum wage rates for the 2017 fiscal year. The municipal code requires the rates for all position classifications within the city. The rates are consistent with those incorporated in the city’s budget for 2017.
