CRESTON — Creston Community Consolidated School District #161 was awarded a $20,000 grant from Project Lead the Way. This grant will be allocated over the course of the next three school years for middle school students. With this grant, the District will be able to purchase interactive flat panel televisions, Chromebooks, 3D printer(s), and provide training to teachers.
Project Lead the Way is a non-profit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for students and teachers across the U.S. They support an engaging classroom environment and empower students to apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges. Through pathways in computer science, engineering, and science, students learn about: technical skills, how to solve problems, thinking critically and creatively, communication, and collaboration. In addition, PLTW provides teachers with the training, resources, and support they need to foster student engagement in real-world learning.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our students and teachers” said Dr. Bill Robertson, District Superintendent. “We are excited about yet another collaborative partnership with our District.”
This grant will support student learning and exploration for students as middle school is a time when students are determining what they are passionate about and how that relates to their future. This hands-on program will support classroom engagement and excitement, drive collaboration, and inspire “aha” moments with deep comprehension.
