STERLING — Lady Hub senior Britney Baez recorded Rochelle’s top varsity performance when the cross country program competed in the annual Rock River Run this past weekend.
Baez finished 47th out of 155 runners with a time of 21:10 as the lone varsity participant on the Rochelle girls team. The Lady Hubs fielded four racers in the fresh-soph girls division, with sophomore Sara Johnson placing 26th and medaling with a time of 23:23.
Senior Santi Cordoba led the Hubs in the varsity boys race, taking 93rd with a time of 18:59 while senior Tucker Louis took 97th with a time of 19:05. Junior Aiden Seldal finished 100th with a time of 19:11 and freshman David Wanner led Rochelle in the fresh-soph boys division, placing 76th with a time of 19:53.
“Once again, wet and muddy conditions dominated the day for our team,” head coach Mark Zilis said. “Despite that, three of our runners set new personal records and one of our athletes won a medal. We will be back on this course three more times this season and we should see much faster times under better conditions.”
