Chana — Darrel D. Daub, 80, of Chana, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Rochelle. He had been plagued with increasingly debilitating dementia for many years.
Darrel was born Sept. 24, 1937 in Waterman, the son of Floyd E. and Corinne E. (Reed) Daub. He grew up in Rochelle and attended Rochelle Township High School. He and his family moved to rural Chana in 1970. He worked as a ready-mix concrete truck driver for 37 years, having retired from Rogers Ready Mix in 1997.
He married Linda R. Strawbridge on Dec. 1, 1963 at the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
She survives him as well as their children, Karen (Brian) Larson of Leaf River, David (Dana) Daub of Mt. Morris, Tracy (Steve) Novak of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Daniel (Suzanne) Daub of Oregon; grandchildren, Mallory and Isabelle Bergstrom, Micah Larson, Matthew and Kaitlyn Daub, Joseph and Jessica Novak and Spencer Daub. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Audrey Daub and Donna Heid; brother-in-law, Tom Strawbridge; many nieces, nephews and cousins and life-long friend, Jim Baker of Sarasota, Fla.
Preceding Darrel in death were his parents; brothers, Ronald (in infancy), William R., and Floyd, Jr.; sister-in-law, Beulah “Bea” (Payne) Daub; daughter, Angela Daub-Bergstrom in 2017; and his “friend-as-close-as-a-brother,” Don McBride.
Visitation will be from 2 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 7 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Chan Ik Choi of Chana United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
