ROCHELLE — Waldeen “Deanie” L. Springmire, 92, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at the Rochelle Community Hospital. She was born on June 5, 1924 in Hiltonia, Ga., the daughter of Leslie and Estelle (Forehand) Roberts. Deanie married Leslie E. Springmire on June 3, 1951 in Millen, Ga. They shared many wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on October 22, 2000.

Deanie graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Ga., in 1948.  She and Les moved to Rochelle in 1955 and she later worked as a P.E. Teacher at the Rochelle Township High School, retiring in 1985. She continued substitute teaching and was actively involved in the community at the Rochelle Community Hospital Foundation, Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary, Rotary, Hope Foundation Board and the Faith Lutheran Church.  She devoted herself to faith, family, many friends and loved to quilt.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Mary Salter, Hazel Hinely, Frances Chance, Joanne Lariscy, and Vaughna Roberts; three brothers, Ira, Wayburn and Alex Roberts; and daughter, Penny Stivers.

She is survived by her three children, Peter (Christel) Springmire of Sycamore; Jack (Nancy Mikeworth) Springmire of Woodridge and Jill (Kerry) Peterson of Lindale, Texas; son-in-law, Michael Stivers of Troy; 10 grandchildren, Becky Beloungy, Daniel Springmire and Laura (Luke) Venstrom, Patrick, Bridget, Conor, and Brennan Springmire, and David Peterson, Heather (Taylor) Bray, and Hope (Tim) Mesaros; two step-grandchildren, Laura and Tim Mikeworth; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Stivers, Samuel and Reid Venstrom, Violett Peterson and one more great-grandchild on the way.

Visitation will be from 3 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth Street, Rochelle. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Joy Alsop and Lee Roberts, nephew of Deanie, officiating. Burial at Trinity Memory Gardens.
