ROCHELLE — Construction continues at the new Kennay Farms Distilling in downtown Rochelle as crews have recently installed the exterior balcony structure.
The interior is also starting to take shape as the 1930s building is transformed by blending the unique architecture with modern amenities. Aubrey Kennay explained the entire family is involved with the new venture all bringing their expertise and passion to the table.
She also explains how important maintaining the historical aspect of the building has been to the Kennay family from the start. One way the Kennay family plans to honor the history is by keeping the original brick interior walls, creating a “vast, rustic appearance full of character inside the structure.”
“One wall will be dedicated to the history of the Kennay family. We want the people we serve to know who we are and how Kennay Farms Distilling came to be. Additional wall space will be dedicated to the history of the theater,” Kennay said. “From the beginning, it has been a priority to maintain the historical integrity of the building. We plan to highlight many of the features that remain in its original form so locals and everyone that respects history can see its beautiful revolution.”
Kennay said along with constructing a balcony similar to the original, the vertical sign that once adorned the theater will be similarly replicated and enhanced with a live message board to display specials and events at its’ base.
Kennay said the public has been instrumental with their input on the colors and a theme; the final selection, says Kennay, is an “understated elegance with gold and two shades of grey.”
Kennay Farms Distilling will offer tours and tastings several times during the week, with snacks available in the tasting area. Plans include a catering kitchen and a conference room available for rentals that would accommodate 20 to 30 people. The tasting area can hold between 70 and 100 people. Plans to offer products online are underway as well.
“We encourage area businesses or groups that are looking for meeting space to consider holding their event with us,” Kennay said. “Please follow our progress on our Facebook page, ‘Kennay Farms Distilling’ and share with your family and friends. We are so encouraged by the community support and hope others join in the excitement so that we can all make Rochelle a vibrant, thriving community for people to visit.”
