ROCHELLE — Dolores Elaine Brandon, 84, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She was born Dec. 28, 1933 in Pine Rock Township, Ogle County, the daughter of Edward John and Mabel (Lumsden) Potts.
Dolores has lived in Rochelle since 1971. She worked for Caron International until it closed. After that, she worked as lunch lady for the Rochelle Elementary School District until she retired in 2013.
Dolores was very independent, even at the age of 84. She shoveled her own drive, mowed her own lawn, picked up the yard every day, and took care of her home. She was very supportive of local charities, especially the Kitchen Table. She could often be found there enjoying brunch and donating to the cause.
Dolores was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
Dolores is survived by her daughters, Karen Bien of Rochelle, and Linda (Robert) Hoffman of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Robert (Ronda) Werkmeister, Steve (Victoria) Werkmeister, Dennis (Kimberly) Bien, Erin (Michael) Weeks, David Hoffman, August (Tia) Germar, and John Hoffman; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marian (Charles) Heng of Chana, Elsie Johnson of Rochelle, and Teresa Mueller of Rochelle; one brother, Jim Potts of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dolores is preceded in death by an infant son, Stephan Howard Slagle; a brother, Gerald Potts; and a son-in-law, Earl Bien.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.
