STEWARD — Doris E. Burkhart, 95, was called home to God on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Rochelle, surrounded by her family.

Doris was born on Feb. 25, 1924 in Lee County to Earl and Caroline (Brachle) Barnhart of Steward.
She married Harold R. Burkhart on March 13, 1943. They made their home in the Steward area where they farmed together for 45 years.
They spent many vacations in Minnesota with family and friends and enjoyed spending time at their river home in Dixon prior to Harold’s death.
Doris loved to play cards, do crossword and jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed baking. She also enjoyed taking bus trips with the Senior Center. Close friends that knew her loved to hear her yodel.  She has been a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rochelle and a member of the Rochelle Moose Lodge.
Doris is survived by her son, Dennis (Angela) Burkhart of Steward; six grandchildren, Brett Melton, Ross Melton, Quint (Melinda) Burkhart, Chad Burkhart, Amy (Scott) Johnson and Zack Burkhart; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Dave Yocum.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Keith; daughter, Sharon (Melton) Reed; brother, Sonny Barnhart; and sister, Lorraine (Kehm) Cote.
A special thank you to the Rochelle Community Hospital and Rochelle Rehab and Health Care staffs.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Nordman officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.  
Memorials may be made in Doris’s memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL  60707.
