PERU — There may not have been many high scores at the 2016 Cavalier Classic at Peru’s Illinois Valley Super Bowl this past Saturday, but Rochelle junior Katie Dummer certainly isn’t complaining.
Dummer was excellent for the Lady Hubs on Saturday, shooting a 1,137 six-game series that featured a high score of 223 to medal in fourth place individually and help the varsity girls team place third out of eight schools including conference foes LaSalle-Peru and Ottawa.
Junior Carlie Elder recorded a 1,022 series and a team-high 256 to finish the tournament in 10th place, while senior Julia Frye added 892 pins and a personal best score of 175 on the day to place 17th out of 46 girls.
Senior Aana Patel and sophomore Autumn Headon combined for 1,385 pins in the competition, with junior Bailey Martin chipping in 270 pins over two games.
Rochelle ended the first three-game series with 2,425 pins, trailing nonconference neighbor Mendota by only five entering the second half of competition. But the oil continued to break down as more balls rolled down the lane, and the transition proved to be difficult for the Lady Hubs, who totaled just 2,261 pins over the final three games.
Mendota recorded 2,573 pins to place second overall, with Oregon winning the team competition with 5,500 total pins over six games. Hall Township’s Eric Biccochi won the individual title with a six-game series of 1,248, while Mendota’s Gillian Sutton earned second with 1,189 and Oregon’s Ali Scheidecker landed in third with 1,168 pins.
The Lady Hubs return to Rochelle’s T-Byrd Lanes on Tuesday for a home match against DeKalb. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
