Duo arrested for passing counterfeit bills

ROCHELLE — Rochelle police arrested a Chicago man and woman for trying to pass counterfeit money at a local business over the weekend.
Police say Santana Daniel, 47,  Joni Stewart, 51,  were arrested Saturday afternoon on the felony offense of forgery.

The two allegedly tried to pass fake $100 and $20 bills at Walmart. Police were notifed of the incident and informed the duo had left the premises.
Santana and Stewart were located a short time later during a traffic stop in Rochelle. Additional counterfeit money was dound in Stewart’s purse as well as a small bag of heroin. She was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Stewart and Santana were taken to the Ogle County jail with no bond set on the felony offense where they awaited appearance before a judge.
Rochelle police continue to investigate the incident as there have been numerous counterfeit bills that have shown up at local businesses over the past several months.
