DEKALB COUNTY — A Kings man is dead following an electrical accident Tuesday afternoon in DeKalb County.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s officers responded to the area of Old State Road and Malta Road at approximately 2:17 p.m. on May 28 for a possible piece of farm equipment that had struck power lines.
After the initial investigation, it was learned that Luke Carmichael, 36, of Kings, was operating a boom lift that was on the back of a semi trailer in an attempt to lift power lines to clear the way for a second semi truck pulling a large grain bin. The power lines came in contact with the lift, causing the metal Carmichael was touching to become charged.
ComEd arrived on scene to deactivate the power lines, permitting emergency responders to tend to Carmichael; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Coroner.
