ROCHELLE — Work on the bike path is moving forward as Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District commissioners approved an engineering agreement Monday night for path improvements. The approved agreement totals just under $26,000.
In December, executive director Roger Bunger told commissioners that the state of the current bike path should be a priority for the district – recommending the work be done in one or two years instead of long-term plans to repair and resurface the path over several years. “We’ve got some areas that have really deteriorated due to water drainage problems and we need to patch in new asphalt or possibly even concrete in those areas,” he said in December. “Everyone is excited about the new bike path extension, but I believe it’s important to take care of the older path and spend the money to refurbish, seal and re-stripe the entire path to make it all nice.”
The approved agreement includes a 2-in-1 overlay over the existing surface, ADA ramp improvements, and concrete pads and benches.
Commissioners also approved the purchase of two mowers for the district.
A Toro Zero Turn mower currently owned by the district will be evaluated for trade-in value to replace it with like equipment at a cost of no more than $9,800 and a 12’ pull-type finish mower will be traded in to be replaced with a 12’ rough-cut pull type mower for no more than $9,500.
