Family in need

The Suarez family

Donations being taken for house fire victims

ROCHELLE – A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a local family that lost its house and all of its belongings in a house fire last week.
The Suarez family, which includes husband and wife, Joe and Haley, and their two daughters, Mackenna and Lauren, lost its home and everything inside when its house caught fire. The fire occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27.
While nobody was injured during the fire, the family is now forced to completely start over. The Suarez family is currently staying at the Comfort Inn in Rochelle while the insurance company works out a solution to help them.

Items

A GoFundMe has been set up by family friend Samantha Heffron to help raise funds and take donations of clothes and children’s toys. The GoFundMe is accepting money donations as well as extra-large men’s shirts, 33-by-34 sized men’s pants, medium-sized women’s shirts and 3-5 sized women’s pants. Clothing for their daughters should be purchased in girls sizes 3T and 5T/6T.
The page can be reached at https://www.gofundme.com/f/suarez-family-house-fire?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1. Monetary donations can be done directly through the page, but Heffron must be contacted at 630-347-6454 to coordinate clothing and toy donations.
“This GoFundMe is so helpful to us and all of the funds are going toward day-to-day necessities for our family,” Haley Suarez said. “Our girls need new clothes and a new bed and Joe and I need both new clothes and a new bed too.”
The Suarez family is very thankful for all of the help and support it has received from the entire community. The family has only lived in Rochelle for two years and has not gotten to know many people during that time, but the amount of community support makes the family feel as if it has spent its entire life in Rochelle.
“It has been great seeing the entire community wrap its arms around us without even knowing us, everyone is so willing to help,” Suarez said. “There are so many people that have come forward to donate clothes, money and all kinds of things. There have also been so many people that have come up to us to tell us they are thinking of us. I would just like to give a big thank you to everybody that has shown their support and helped our family during these tough times.”
