CRESTON — As the final preparations are underway for the 62nd Annual Creston Booster Days, village officials approved $2,200 for this year’s fireworks display.
The motion was approved during Tuesday evening’s board meeting.
The annual event is scheduled for Sept. 14 through Sept. 16, beginning with a dinner at the opera house Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. The Little Miss Creston contest begins the same evening at 6 p.m.
Trustees also approved a motion to reduce the number of liquor licenses available. Currently the village has one Class A license for a future café and slot business at Route 38 and Main Street as well as a Class B license for liquor sales at Casey’s.
A one-day liquor license was approved for a theater event, “Taste of the Phantom,” to be held at the Creston Opera House on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The village will be contacting Rochelle Municipal Utilities to inquire about repairing the concrete foundations of several downtown streetlights. No action was taken on the matter.
Kristi Scherer addressed the trustees regarding a proposed community event for Saturday, Dec. 1 near the gazebo. Scherer plans to offer pictures with Santa and serve refreshments. More details will be discussed when they become available.
