CHANA — No injuries were reported after fire destroyed a home in rural Ogle County Wednesday evening.
Crews with the Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire Department were initially dispatched at 7:46 p.m. for a structure fire at 10134 E. Lindenwood Road in Chana. First arriving units found heavy fire in the lower level of the home. Two adults in the home made it out safely.
“Due to the weather conditions, we quickly escalated the alarm level to get additional firefighters and equipment on the scene,” said Lynn-Scott-Rock fire chief Richard Mott. “In all we had 12 area fire departments and 63 firefighters assisting at the fire.”
Mott also said Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle and deputies responded to the scene, bringing a mobile command trailer used by crews as a warming facility. Over 40,000 gallons of water had been used to fight the fire. Crews remained on scene for four hours.
Rochelle fire chief Dave Sawlsville said the Rochelle and Ogle-Lee fire stations sent additional equipment including engines, ladder truck and tenders.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
