ROCHELLE — A 45-minute rain delay put a stop to Rochelle Little League action Monday evening, but the bad weather eventually subsided, allowing Major League boys teams Firemen and Kiwanis Club to battle in a make-up game from this past Wednesday.
Both teams went scoreless through two innings, with Firemen’s Felix Schlenbecker and Kiwanis Club’s Josh Lloyd dealing on the pitcher’s mound. Kiwanis broke the tie in the top of the third inning after Lloyd singled and scored on an RBI double by Grant Messer.
Firemen responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Three players walked including Aidan Rodriguez, Makhiyo Rodriguez and Elijah Harley, while both Jackson Brunner-Lodico and Schlenbecker recorded RBIs. Zach Sanford singled to score Brock Metzger and Schlenbecker to boost the Firemen offense.
Kiwanis Club earned one run back in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-2 game, and the red squad tacked on one more run in the fifth when Messer launched a solo home run to center to tap off a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Two walks and two singles by Sanford and Brode Metzger plated Firemen’s sixth run, and Brock Metzger escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
