Fly-in, drive in breakfast set at Ogle County Airport

OREGON – The summer flying season is winding down, which means that Aug. 27 is the final chance to enjoy breakfast and the sights and sounds of airplanes at our grass strip airport, located on Hwy. 64 between MountMorris and Oregon.
Tasty ham, Eichman’s whole hog sausage, cantaloupe, scrambled eggs, French Toast and stacks of pancakes with toppings, including blueberry syrup, will be served by volunteers at the Ogle County Airport August 27 from 7-11 a.m. The breakfasts are fundraisers for the non-taxpayer supported airport and attracts hundreds of small, private airplanes from several surrounding states each year. The breakfast has become know as the best Fly-In/Drive-In breakfast in the Midwest.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to enjoy. Each year our events bring several hundred people together to enjoy great food and mingle with friends and those interested in aviation. There is no charge to view the planes and parking is free. The local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) sponsors the breakfast.
Frequently old military training planes will fly in and do fly-bys. Some of these planes will trail white smoke as they fly-by in an old tradition of air shows. The smoke is produced by spraying a special paraffin into the manifold.
The next event is annual Hangar Dance on Sept. 9 to kick off the fall season.
The airport was recognized with IDOT’s Airport of the Year award in 2007 in part because of the many improvements made at the airport. More information on organizations, hangars, and the local EAA chapter is available from any airport member or by calling Glenn Hake at 815-546-3213.
