Food for rebuild

Posted

ROCHELLE – The First Presbyterian Church will be the place to be next Friday, May 24, for a great tasting lunch and to support a great cause.
The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District is hosting its egg roll fundraiser to help fund the Kids Ground rebuild project at Cooper Park.
All of the food is homemade, using original family recipes.
“Watsana Thiravong and her 16-year-old daughter, Megan, are providing all of the food,” Jackee Ohlinger, park district executive director said. “They offered to use their own recipes and we were very grateful.”
Attendees at the event will have the choice to purchase a meal including one egg roll, one crab Rangoon, a grilled pork loin, fried rice and a dessert for $10 or they can purchase egg rolls or crab Rangoon’s by the dozen for $10 to $15. The food is available for dine-in, take-out or delivery depending on the size of the orders.
“Attendees can order their food in person or online, for either dine-in or take-out,” said Ohlinger. “Delivery is available for orders of 10 or more lunches.”

Along with selling lunches at the fundraiser organizers will also be selling engraved pickets that will be made into a fence and set up during the build of the new deluxe playground.
The fence will be erected around the play area for 2-5-year-old kids at the new Kids Ground.
“We will be selling the pickets for $75 each,” said Ohlinger. “People can leave a mark for years to come.”
The plans to rebuild Cooper Park’s Kids Ground have been set since last November when the Play by Design company came from New York to help design the new area. The rebuild will include many different additions such as new equipment and safety features.
“The rebuild project will include rubber pathways to improve accessibility to transition points throughout the playground, along with landscaping and other added play amenities,” Ohlinger added.
The ultimate goal of the fundraiser would be to raise $100,000, but donations of any amount are welcome. Although the fundraiser was created to earn money for the rebuild project, attendees will get more out of it than just the food.
“I encourage everyone to come out,” said Ohlinger. “There will be wonderful egg rolls and it is a great social opportunity.”
The egg roll fundraiser will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Calvin Road from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. To place an online order visit Rochelleparkdistrict.org and click on Kids Ground.
