Football: Fresh-Soph Hubs crush Herscher

Rochelle remains unbeaten with 64-14 victory

HERSCHER — The Rochelle Hub fresh-soph football team crushed Herscher in nonconference action Friday evening, winning 64-14 to start the season with a 2-0 record. The Hubs will look to remain unbeaten when they begin conference play against Johnsburg this Friday at 5 p.m.

Sophomore Brandyn Metzger led the defense with eight tackles, while sophomore Ethan Goodwin recorded seven tackles. Sophomore Ryan Senne had two tackles for loss as well as one sack and sophomore Cayden Moore snagged an interception to help spark the defense.

Moore also stepped up on offense and special teams, returning a kick 70 yards for a touchdown and hauling in a 40-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback Carson Lewis. Freshman Roman Villalobos found the end zone three times, scoring on 8-yard, 65-yard and 55-yard rushing touchdowns. Sophomore Jackson Smith rushed for a 35-yard touchdown.

Lewis and freshman Keagan Albers each reached the end zone on short-yardage touchdowns runs, with Lewis scoring on a 7-yard rush and Albers surging forward on a 2-yard rush.
