OREGON — A former Rochelle man was given a sentence of 30 years in prison after he pled guilty to felony charges related to a sexual assault case.
Benjamin Meyer, 38, of Belvidere, was originally charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child — a Class X felony offense. In Ogle County Court Thursday, Meyer pled guilty to three counts.
Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Meyer in September 2017 following an investigation. According to court records, the sexual contact took place with a female victim known by Meyer.
According to Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow, Meyer was originally released on bond after posting 10 percent of a $200,000 bond, but he returned to jail on Dec. 6, 2017 after his bond was increased after he allegedly violated the conditions of his bond
"We are pleased with this sentence, which is the result of a brave victim and the efforts and dedication of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of members from Shining Star Children's Advocacy Center, the Ogle County Sheriff's Office and the Ogle County State's Attorney's Office," Morrow said on Friday afternoon.
