Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3 in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with chaplain Kent Terry officiating. Burial will be at the Melugins Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
Fountain was born Aug. 29, 1922 in West Frankfort to Fountain and Alma (Stebbens) Neal. He married Esta (London) Neal in June 1942 and they had four sons.
He lived in Compton, where he raised his family. He worked in the feed and fertilizer business and owned and managed Compton Ag Service for many years. He also worked with the Cub Scouts and was on the Compton Village Board.

Fountain proudly served in the Army in WWII in the South Pacific, where he was an amphibious tank driver and was involved in a number of island assault landings. He was also called back into the service during the Korean War. He was definitely a part of the greatest generation and will be missed.
