ROCHELLE — Francine Meredith Spring, 87, went to be with the lord, Jan. 16 at Bethany Healthcare in DeKalb. Francine was born on Nov. 9, 1934 in McIntosh, South Dakota to Francis and Velma (Calhoun) Brown. On Aug. 2, 1955, she married James C. Spring at Foursquare Church in Rochelle.

Francine was a loving wife, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was a lifetime member of Rochelle Foursquare Church where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and president of the ladies group. She worked in a dime store, a yarn factory and a printing firm. She also cooked meals for shut-ins and delivered Meals-On-Wheels. Francine enjoyed working with the elderly, holding church services at the nursing homes and volunteering at the food pantry. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and traveling with James.

Francine is survived by two daughters: Veda (the late Tony) Simms of Milan, Indiana and Vickie (Barry) Taylor of DeKalb; eight grandchildren: Barry “BLT” Taylor, II of DeKalb, Susie (Jeff) Thompson, Abigail (Colton Moore) Harris both of Scottsville, Kentucky, James (Cindy) Harris, Meredith Harris, Joseph (Angie) Simms, Chad (Ashley) Simms all of Rochelle and Joshua Simms of Milan, Indiana; two sisters: Melva (Sid) Brenner of Carson, North Dakota and Gayle Moulton of Prescott, Wisconsin; brother, Dewey (Jan) Moulton of Hastings, Minnesota; son-in-law, Noel Harris of Arkansas; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Francine was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Spring on Jan. 8, 2022; daughter, Velda Harris; son-in-law, Tony Simms; sister, Evelyn Brown; brother, Cedar Fuchs; step father, Henry Fuchs and great grandmother, Olive Calhoun.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Jan. 21 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will follow at noon on Friday with Pastor Duane Boehm officiating. Private burial at Trinity Memory Gardens. A memorial will be established.
