ROCHELLE — Francis “Butch” L. Halsne, 75, of Rochelle, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 in Freeport.  Butch was born April 13, 1942 in Rochelle, the son of Elmer and Marie (Schabacker) Halsne. He married Janet Morris on Oct. 2, 1965 in Ashton.
Butch proudly served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rochelle VFW 3878, where he was a commander for three years.  For over 10 years he was a volunteer driver/coordinator for veterans. He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ashton American Legion and LCCA Train Club.  
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marie; and one brother, Robert Halsne.
Butch is survived by his wife, Janet, of Rochelle; two daughters, Pam Lambert and Sandy Halsne both of Rochelle; one brother, William (Yusoon) Halsne of Salem, Ore.; one sister, Georgia (Richard) Crosby of Rockford and one sister-in-law, Cathy Halsne of Colgate, Wis.; and four grandchildren, Samatha (Kori) Kirkpatrick, Danny and Sara Woodall and Tyler Smith.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle with Pastor Greg Hoffmann Officiating.  Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.  A memorial is still to be established.
