ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs varsity tennis team hosted the IHSA Class 1A Sectional this past weekend, with senior Jasmin Galvan advancing to the third round in the singles bracket after picking up Rochelle’s lone victory in the competition.
Galvan entered the tournament as Rochelle’s No. 2 singles player, and the senior received a first-round bye before taking down Keith Country Day’s Haley Shaw in decisive fashion, winning 6-0, 6-1 in the second round. Galvan lost to Kaneland’s Piper Schrepferman 0-6, 0-6 in the third round.
Senior and No. 1 singles player Alex Nava faced Sycamore’s Lizzie Egerman in the opening round, falling to Egerman 0-6, 3-6. Seniors Marissa Belmonte and Raquel Montelongo led Rochelle in the doubles bracket, falling to Kaneland’s Haley Plach and Ingrid Napiorkowski in a tight two-set match. Plach and Napiorkowski edged Belmonte and Montelongo, 7-6(2), 6-2.
Senior Lillian Fulgencio and sophomore Kate Monfils earned a first-round bye before taking on Kaneland’s Anna Carlson and Erin McMullen in the second round. Carlson and McMullen took the match over Fulgencio and Monfils, 6-0, 6-0.
