LINDENWOOD — Gary Robert Mershon, 74, of Lindenwood, passed away on Feb. 18, 2018 at Serenity Hospice and Home Oregon. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on April 7, 1943 to Earl Mershon and Jean Gould Mershon.
He was an avid camper and did so for 40 years with the “Kings of the Road.” He also loved gardening, woodworking and going to the coffee shop with the boys. He was a member of Horicon Lodge #244 A.F. & A.M., Rochelle.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Lindenwood; five children, Cindy (Todd) Furman of Rochelle, Christine (Steve Miller) Mershon of Rockford, Gary (Cathy) Mershon Jr. of Rockford, Tim (Michelle) Mershon of Rockford and Jodi (Sam) Thomas of Oregon; one sister, Julie (Steve) Reineck of Rochelle; one brother; Doug (Nancy) Mershon of Madrid, Iowa; as well as 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chucky Mershon.
Memorial services will be held at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home, 704 N. Sixth St. in Rochelle, on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. with a memorial visitation from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Serenity Hospice House1658 IL Rt.2 Oregon, IL 61061.
