ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub freshman-sophomore basketball team hosted Sycamore on Tuesday, falling 37-20 and moving to 2-3 on the season.
Freshman Loretta Atkinson led the Lady Hubs with five points, while freshmen Kylie Smith and Kara Martinez each added four points. Sophomore Francesca Williams scored four points and sophomore Maleah Pointer recorded three points for the Lady Hubs, who topped Sandwich 28-10 this past Wednesday.
Sycamore held a 9-5 lead after the first quarter. Williams and Martinez each made a mid-range basket for Rochelle, with Martinez adding a free throw late in the period. Pointer and Williams each made one shot in the second quarter, where Sycamore extended its halftime lead to 21-9.
Smith stepped up for the Lady Hubs in the third quarter, sinking a pair of mid-range baskets while Martinez chipped in one free throw. Sycamore remained ahead 31-14 after three quarters, with both teams scoring six fourth-quarter points. Atkinson scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter on a short-range basket and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
