Girls Basketball: Henkel earns Interstate 8 First Team honors

Nantz receives All-Conference Honorable Mention
ROCHELLE — Junior Alivia Henkel was named an All-Conference First Team honoree in the Interstate 8 for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team this season. Henkel averaged 11.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game for the Lady Hubs (8-24, 6-8 Interstate 8) and was selected unanimously by the conference.
“I’ve been working really hard and it was great to hear from other coaches that they felt I’ve been working hard and doing well too,” Henkel said. “I think I’ve become a better leader and I felt like I was able to learn more about my teammates and where my spot is on the team."
Senior Torrin Nantz was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention for the Lady Hubs this season. Henkel’s standout performances from the 2022-23 season include a 21-point second-half effort against the Plano Reapers on Jan. 31 as well as a 24-point outing against Aquin Catholic on Dec. 27. It's the first time Henkel has earned All-Conference First Team honors in her high school basketball career.
"I felt like I could be wherever my coach needed me to be," Henkel said. "If I needed to defend the other team’s best offensive player, I could do that and if I needed to score, I could do that too. I want to improve my shooting percentage next season and I want to work on expanding my shooting range.”
