Girls Basketball: Sophomores take second in Rochelle Holiday Tournament

The Lady Hub sophomore basketball team went 2-1 over three games to take second place in the Rochelle Holiday Tournament this week. The team includes Ashley Knight, McKenna Montes, Lauren Jackson, Abby Luxton, Bailey Jackson, Miraya Montes, Torrin Nantz, Grace Luxton, Anna Harvey, Jordin Dickey, Kylee Davis, Shannon Harding and Adriannah Davis-Carter. Lady Hubs notch wins over Oregon, Genoa-Kingston

ROCHELLE — The Lady Hub sophomore basketball team won back-to-back games to reach the final round of the Rochelle Holiday Tournament this week. Rochelle faced off against Rock Island for the championship title, falling 50-38 to finish second in the tournament.

Rochelle tipped off the tournament with a 47-40 victory against Oregon on Thursday. The Lady Hubs trailed 11-4 after the first quarter before outscoring the Hawks 18-9 in the second quarter and limiting Oregon to five fourth-quarter points. Torrin Nantz led Rochelle with 13 points, while Jordin Dickey added 10 points and Anna Harvey recorded nine points.

The Lady Hubs defeated Genoa-Kingston in the second round, winning 36-27 to clinch their spot in the championship game. Abigail Luxton finished with 20 points on nine made baskets for Rochelle, while Ashley Knight chipped in four points and Anna Harvey totaled five points. The Lady Hubs held the Cogs to only three points in the first quarter.
