ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team will return most of its core starters from last season. Head coach Eric Widick will be learning on that experience as the purple and white move toward their first match of the season against Ottawa on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The Lady Hubs returned to T-Byrd Lanes on Monday for their first practice of the season. Rochelle will be looking to build on a 7-10 record as well as a 4-6 record in the Interstate 8 Conference from last season. After finishing fourth in the conference last season, Widick said a goal for the Lady Hubs during the 2022-23 campaign will be to earn a top-3 placement.
“I’ve been looking forward to starting the season and we have a good core group of girls we’re starting with,” Widick said. “I’d like to see the girls move from fourth to third in the conference and I’d like to see them improve by at least 15 pins before the end of the season. Our girls have a strong work ethic and I think they’re going to do a great job. I think we have a few girls who are capable of advancing out of the regional and possibly qualifying for the state meet.”
Sophomore Cassidy Vincent returns to the varsity team after earning All-Conference First Team honors and advancing to the IHSA Sectional Series last season. Juniors Anahi Alanis and Faith Adams are also back for the Lady Hubs, who currently have six bowlers on the roster this winter. Rochelle’s first tournament this season will be the Jefferson Invitational on Saturday, Dec 3.
“I’m looking for Cassidy to be our leader this season,” Widick said. “She has a lot of competitive experience and Faith has competed quite a bit as well. Faith is our only third-year bowler at the high school level and I think she can take on a leadership role as well. Our girls work really well together and they bowl together during the summer league here. I think we’ll gel together well.”
Rochelle’s first home match of the season will be on Thursday, Nov. 31 against Morris. The Lady Hubs will bowl in multiple tournaments including the Cavalier Classic on Saturday, Dec. 10, the Charles Butterfield Invitational on Jan. 14 and the Sterling MLK Invitational on Jan. 16. Rochelle will host the Interstate 8 Conference Championship meet at T-Byrd Lanes on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
