OREGON — Rochelle freshman Madison Ost was the catalyst on offense when the Lady Hubs varsity soccer team battled Oregon on the road Wednesday evening. The newcomer scored both Rochelle goals as the Lady Hubs outlasted the Hawks by a score of 2-1 to improve to 1-1 overall and earn their first win of the season.

“It felt really great,” Ost said. “It was awesome because we worked as a team and we talked really well… We just need to keep communicating how we are and keep working. Our work ethic is really important and I think that’s one of the most important ways to win games. Being able to communicate and work hard will help us win more games than last year.”

The Lady Hubs fell behind 1-0 after Oregon scored in the 12th minute to take the early lead. Almost immediately after, Ost put Rochelle on the board, evening the match at 1-1 before both teams went over 60 minutes without adding another goal. In the 74th minute, Ost received a pass from sophomore teammate Flor Becerra, and Ost booted the ball past the Oregon keeper to give the Lady Hubs the late advantage.

“There weren’t any players in front of me and my teammate passed me the ball,” Ost said. “I was able to kick the ball and it curved into the net.”

Ost became the second Lady Hub freshman to score this season after Lizbeth Milan found the net in Rochelle’s game against Mendota on Monday. Four of the team’s five goals (through two games) have been recorded by underclassmen. For Ost, whose older sister Kaitlynn is a junior on the varsity team, playing side-by-side with a familiar face has been a great experience.

“It’s really fun,” Ost said. “I’ve played on a team with her before, but it’s different this time around because this is our high school team and it’s a girls-only team. If one of us forgets something, the other one can cover. We’re able to do things together on the field where we know what the other person’s thinking.”
