ROCHELLE — Olivia Piloni was unsure about taking over the center forward position for the Rochelle varsity girls soccer team this season. After scoring over 60 percent of her team’s goals this season, however, Piloni established herself as one of the best players in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference.
Piloni received All-Conference First Team recognition for the second straight season, while senior midfielder Sarah Craven earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Piloni, who will be taking her soccer talents to The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next year, finished her final high school season with a career-best 24 goals while adding four assists.
“I’m really honored and excited about earning All-Conference,” Piloni said. “It’s always been a goal of mine. I actually didn’t want to be put up at the center forward, and I was getting frustrated over the first couple of games. But by the end of the season I definitely got more comfortable up there.”
Piloni and the Lady Hubs finished 2-14-2 during the 2019 season. The senior scored a career-high five goals in one game when Rochelle hosted Sterling on April 17. Piloni recorded seven multi-goal games for Rochelle this spring, including hat tricks against LaSalle-Peru on May 2 and Hinckley-Big Rock on April 24.
“I’m going to miss all of the girls,” Piloni said. “Nothing can compare to the bonds that we’ve made and I don’t think I know another team that is more like a family than ours.”
