Girls Soccer: Rochelle finishes fourth in Interstate 8 Conference tournament

Lady hubs bow out with losses against Sycamore, Morris

MAPLE PARK — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team finished fourth in the Interstate 8 Conference tournament, which concluded Saturday afternoon at Kaneland High School. Rochelle faced Morris in the third-place match, falling 5-4 in a hard-fought consolation battle.

Freshman Makayla Lara led the Lady Hubs with three goals in the match, while sophomore Sydney Thorne added one goal and sophomore Dani Ward totaled three saves in net. Rochelle (6-9, 4-2 Interstate 8) outshot Morris 20-9 and outpaced the Redskins 14-8 in shots on goal.

The Lady Hubs took the lead late in the first half, scoring on Lara’s first goal of the match during the 32nd minute. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Morris responded with goals during the 46th and 50th minutes to regain control of the match. Lara connected with an equalizer during the 64th minute to tie the score at 2-2 before the Redskins fired back with a goal during the 65th minute.

Rochelle refused to back down, with Lara tying the match in the 68th minute and evening the score at 3-3. The seesaw affair continued over the final stretch, with Morris scoring in the 71st minute and Thorne connecting on a goal during the 73rd minute. The Redskins escaped with the victory, though, putting in the deciding goal during the 78th minute to seal the win. 


The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team faced Sycamore in the conference tournament semifinals Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 and moving into the consolation bracket.
