ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team wrapped up a busy week of matches with a home battle against Kaneland on Thursday. The Knights topped the Lady Hubs by a score of 5-0 to drop Rochelle to 0-8 on the season.
Senior Jasmine Rissman won five games and played a close second set in a 1-6, 4-6 loss against Kaneland’s Sarah Nguyen at No. 1 singles. Junior Caitlin McMurray fell in two sets to Ally Mitchinson at No. 2 singles.
Senior Ashlynn Leininger and sophomore Melanie Gonzalez were swept 0-6, 0-6 by Kaneland’s Anna Carlson and Erin McMullen at No. 1 doubles while freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young took two games in a 0-6, 2-6 loss to Evie Taylor and Haley Plach at No. 2 doubles. Juniors Ruth Gardner and Jocelyn Robles fell 0-6, 0-6 against Kaneland’s Christel Lamera and Sofia Gonzalez Magnabosco at No. 3 doubles.
Rochelle will take the court again this weekend when the freshmen and sophomores compete at the Princeton Invitational. The Lady Hubs will play a nonconference match at Streator on Monday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
