ROCHELLE — The Lady Hub varsity tennis team returned home for an Interstate 8 Conference match with the Ottawa Pirates on Thursday. Rochelle claimed one doubles point, but the Lady Hubs ultimately fell by a score of 4-1 to move to 1-3 overall.
Senior Sawyer McGee and junior Sylvia Hasz stepped up for Rochelle at No. 2 doubles, defeating Ottawa’s Kyleigh Olszewski and Grace Sutterfield in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Juniors Emma Hicks and Josie Lundquist fought hard at No. 3 doubles, taking Tessa Thiry and Avery Landers to three sets before falling 6-2, 6-7(5), 3-6.
Ottawa swept the singles courts Thursday afternoon, with Ella Marvel topping Rochelle senior Anna Guevara 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Sara Meyer winning 6-2, 6-2 over Lady Hub junior Megan Thompson at No. 2 singles. The Pirates claimed the No. 1 doubles match, with Marta Johnson and Rebekah Felty defeating Rochelle juniors Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young 6-2, 6-2.
Rochelle (1-3, 0-1 Interstate 8) will face LaSalle-Peru on the road next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
