DEKALB — After back-to-back tough losses to open the 2020 season, the Rochelle Township High School Lady Hub tennis team collected its first victory on Wednesday, edging the DeKalb Barbs 4-3 in nonconference play.

Rochelle (1-2) claimed three of the four doubles points Wednesday afternoon. Juniors MeLisa Young and Jordin Dickey topped DeKalb's Megan Gates and Jayda Minniefield in three sets at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Senior Sawyer McGee and junior Sylvia Hasz fell 3-6, 6-7(8) against Lauren Gates and Mia Adeoti at No. 2 doubles.

Juniors Josie Lundquist and Emma Hicks bounced back from a first-set loss to win at No. 3 doubles, defeating Camryn Mason and Calissa Hudson 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. Junior Ashley Knight and senior Melanie Gonzalez swept Sarah Aljamal and Unique Omodayo in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 doubles.

Junior Megan Thompson earned Rochelle's lone singles point in the match, topping Aubree Judkins 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Senior Anna Guevara fell 2-6, 1-6 against Avia Foster at No. 1 singles, while junior Margaux DaCosta went three sets at No. 3 singles, falling 2-6, 7-6(4), 0-6 against Ilavle Castorena.

JV

The Lady Hub JV tennis team also won on Wednesday, topping DeKalb 4-1 at home. Hailey Miller and Ella Seebach both recorded victories in singles play, with Miller winning 8-5 at No. 1 singles and Seebach winning 8-6 at No. 2 singles.

Ella McKinney and Madison Ost won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Abby Tarvestad and Francesca Williams teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. Lauren Jackson and Idaly Aguila fell in a close No. 2 doubles match, 7-9.
