Girls Tennis: Lady Hubs fall against Streator, Kaneland

Young, Dickey win doubles match with Bulldogs

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle girls tennis team picked up one point during its nonconference match against Streator on Monday. Sophomores Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young combined to take the No. 1 doubles match, but the Lady Hubs couldn’t secure the team victory, falling to the Bulldogs 4-1.

Dickey and Young held off Haley Berry and Lora Berry to win 7-5, 6-4 on the first varsity doubles court. Sophomores Emma Hicks and Margaux DaCosta came very close to defeating Katelyn Coons and Sam Reeland at No. 3 doubles, falling 6-3, 1-6, 9-11.

Junior Sawyer McGee and senior Ruth Gardner played a tight first set with Aleah Evans and Lucy Zavada at No. 2 doubles, losing 6-7, 5-7. Senior Caitlin McMurray fell 1-6, 0-6 against Alyssa Heilman at No. 1 singles, while junior Anna Guevara dropped her match against Claire Vogel, 3-6, 0-6, at No. 2 singles.


Rochelle hosted Kaneland on Tuesday, with the Lady Hubs falling 5-0 to drop their eighth consecutive match and move to 2-8 overall. Piper Schrepferman defeated Caitlin McMurray 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Evie Taylor topped Margaux DaCosta 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Sofia Gonzalez Magnabosco and Christel Lamera won a close 6-4, 6-4 battle over MeLisa Young and Jordin Dickey at No. 1 doubles. Ally Mitchinson and Sarah Nguyen defeated Sawyer McGee and Emma Hicks 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, with Mandy Rizzuto and Leanne Steenwyk topping junior Melanie Gonzalez and Anna Guevara 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
