OTTAWA — The Lady Hub tennis team battled in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship meet Saturday afternoon, scoring six points to finish the tournament in sixth place. Juniors Josie Lundquist and Megan Thompson led Rochelle with a fifth-place performance in the No. 3 doubles bracket, taking home two points for the Lady Hubs in the meet.
Senior Anna Guevara finished sixth in the No. 1 singles bracket and scored one point. Guevara fell 0-6, 0-6 against LaSalle-Peru’s Carlie Miller in the opening round before moving into the consolation bracket and dropping a 1-6, 2-6 match with Morris netter Kayla Walker.
Junior Emma Hicks placed sixth in the No. 2 singles bracket to score one point for Rochelle. Hicks opened the tournament with a 1-6, 2-6 loss against Sycamore’s Ashley Olson in the first round before falling 0-6, 1-6 against Morris netter Libby Wright in consolation play.
Juniors Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young took sixth in the No. 1 doubles bracket and scored one point in the meet. The Lady Hubs fought hard against Ottawa’s Rebekah Felty and Marta Johnson in the opening round, losing 4-6, 5-7 before falling 3-6, 2-6 against Sycamore’s Abby Golembiewski and Olivia King in the consolation round.
Senior Sawyer McGee and junior Sylvia Hasz finished sixth and scored one point for Rochelle in the No. 2 doubles bracket. McGee and Hasz dropped their opening-round match 4-6, 0-6 against LaSalle-Peru’s Olivia Woods and Karissa Etzenbach before falling 5-7, 2-6 in their consolation-round match with Morris players Liz Kenney and Tessa Brummel.
Lundquist and Thompson recorded Rochelle’s lone victory in the conference tournament. The Lady Hubs lost their opening-round match in the No. 3 doubles bracket, falling 5-7, 3-6 against Sycamore’s Jordyn Block and Megan McConnaughy before bouncing back with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Morris netters Darcy Ancel and Olivia Moore in consolation play.
The Lady Hubs will close out the 2020 season in the IHSA 1A Rochelle Sectional on Friday.
