Girls Tennis: Lady Hubs snap losing streak against Sterling
Rochelle nets third victory with 5-4 win over Golden Warriors
STERLING — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak on the road Wednesday evening, edging Sterling 5-4 in nonconference action. The match featured six singles matches and three doubles matches, with Rochelle (3-5, 0-3 Interstate 8) winning three singles points and two doubles points to earn the team victory.
Senior Elin Zheng conceded a loss at No. 1 singles, while senior Kara Martinez notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and senior Macenzie Glosser recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Junior Riley Doyle emerged with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles and junior Kitty Williams fell just short with a 3-6, 4-6 loss at No. 5 singles. Senior Annaleigh McKinney played a tough second set in a 1-6, 4-6 loss at No. 6 singles.
Zheng and Martinez teamed up to play a tight match at No. 1 doubles, coming just short in a 4-6, 6-7 loss. Glosser and McKinney won the No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-3, while Doyle and Williams notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles to help Rochelle secure the team victory.
